Top Five Cruise Tips that Make for a Perfect Cruise

Tip #1: We are pretty sure you paid a good chunk of change for your cruise, a sure way to have a wonderful experience is to start off by slipping your cabin steward a $20 Dollar Bill this will almost guarantee that they perform at peak efficiency, the same goes for the dining workers and bar tenders. Just imagine, you and your love one lounging at the pool side and never having to wave a waitress over for a new drink.  Tip big in the beginning and they will be looking to over your next drink.

Tip #2: Get to the port before everyone else, being one of the 1st on the ship, can add great value to your overall cruise experience.  We like to board and go straight to the pool area, grab a bite to eat and sit back and relax. By the time most people on the cruise get settled in and head to the pool we are ready to go tour the inside. Nothing is more relaxing then being at the pool with only a few other people around. Service is always top-notch at this time as well.

Tip #3: Keeping with the last tip you should always plan ahead, make sure you are early to everything. For some strange reason guest on cruise ships always seem to be last minute.  You can avoid a whole lot of headaches by getting to dinner, shows and any other activities your cruise has to offer.

Tip #4: The one thing that will ruin your cruise it to get Sea Sick we wrote a past blog about this and have a few tips on curing seasickness see them here - 11 ways to Cure Seasickness / Motion Sickness

Tip #5: Everyday there steward will place the ship's daily newsletter, listing all the dining and entertainment options available to you for that day and night. Be sure to read them, and even carry them with you to refer to throughout the day, that way if you are running late and get to a show and it is full you will know exactly where to go to find the next activity, never leaving you in the dark as to what to do next.

11 Tips to Cure Seasickness / Motion Sickness

Most new passengers to board a cruise ship biggest concern is Seasickness or Motion sickness.  We have put together a list of tips to help you when/if you begin to feel sick.

Tip #1 Acupressure Sea-Bands (bracelets that apply pressure to the inside of the wrist) You will see a whole lot of passengers wearing these on the ships.  Everyone loves these.

Tip #2 Ginger This one everyone knows but did you know they sell Ginger Gum you can carry around with where ever you go.  It is a bit spicy but it works.
Tip #3 Keep Your Mind Occupied for example taking the helm of a yacht can reduce sickness as the sufferer has something to concentrate on, and can also anticipate the movement of the vessel
Tip #4 Eat Apples They have to be green apples, but they work. I met a passenger a few years back at dinner and she always had and apple with her, she said when she felt nauseous she would eat one and would feel better immediately.

Tip #5 Oranges If you're feeling nauseous, peel an orange, hold the rind to your nose, and inhale. Getting rid of that feeling within a few minutes.
Tip # 6 Watch the Horizon keeping your eyes directed to the fixed shore or horizon, where possible
Tip #7 Lay down  lying down on your back and close your eyes helps most passengers who are already taken over by Seasickness.
Tip #8 drinking any substance that is likely to temporarily diminish your senses of sight and touch (we recommend ginger ale).  This works well when you first start to feel motion sickness but once you are finished you may want grab some green apples or an orange.
Tip #9 Find Fresh Air move into a position where fresh air is blowing on your face, It could be the deck of the boat, a fan or even the A/C unit.
Tip #10 Move to the Center of the Boat moving to the boat's Center of Gravity to eliminate motion seasickness. Most cruise ships have a few extra seats at the boats center just for this reason.
Tip #11 Watch your temp avoiding getting too cold or too hot, stay out of the sun or keep a wet wash cloth with you to help get your bodies temp back down.
